TRIAL DETAILS

BASF

Autumn BLW residuals are being evaluated in winter wheat, targeting Cleavers as well as mixed species. Fungicide programmes are evaluated in three wheat varieties near Thaxted in conjunction with AICC agronomists.

BAYER CROP SCIENCE

This is the fourth year SACCS has conducted a 'black-grass busting' demonstration combining the 'stacking' principle of residual products with post-emergence timings of Atlantis. A new material is being evaluated as a component of the residual programme. This year we have incorporated ploughing v strip-till drilling at the site near Withersfield alongside two seedrates. AICC agronomists as well as distributor representatives will be invited to look at the results in June 2015.

BRITISH QUINOA COMPANY

For two years SACCS has grown this novel crop in a 'screen' for the purpose of evaluating the safety of herbicides, PGRs and fungicides to Quinoa so that EAMUs can be obtained for new growers.

De SANGOSSE

Adjuvants, Microutrients and Starter Fertilisers are the principal products manufactured by DeSangosse. This year SACCS continues to evaluate new and existing starter fertilisers in both wheat and barley and adjuvants to enhance performance of ALS herbicides. In addition SACCS conducts logarithmic trials with Glyphosate looking at how adjuvants can extend the performance of this valuable husbandry input.

DEWAR CROP PROTECTION

SACCS carries out contract work for Alan Dewar namely drilling and harvesting trials.

DOW AGROSCIENCES

Evaluation of ALS mixtures in conjunction with different adjuvant types for the control of black-grass in winter wheat. Trials this year include a novel residual material.

GOWAN

Further evaluation of Triallate as granules and liquid formulations in programmes to control black-grass in winter wheat. Three trials have been laid down to further evaluate the efficacy of these two products in the battle to control resistant black-grass. Triallate is one of the very few actives to still show control of this pernicious arable weed.

KWS

Black-grass control in winter barley compared at three seed rates (150, 300 and 450/m2 ) to ascertain the impact of crop population. Two barley varieties and one wheat variety (at 300/m2) will be taken to yield and margins compared.

NIAB

NIAB Recommended List Combining Pea variey trial which is located at Little Oakley, Essex in a commercial crop.
NIAB Recommended List Winter Bean variety trial which is located at Balsham, Cambridgeshire in a commercial crop.

ROTAM

Evaluation of 'stacked' products for the pre and peri- emergent control of black-grass.

SYNTECH

Ongoing testing of the safety of new ALS products to subsequent crops in the rotation.

UPL

New product evaluation

IN-HOUSE TRIALS

MANUFACTURERS' FUNGICIDE CHALLENGE: (BASF, BAYER, DUPONT, SYNGENTA, AICC, SACCS, SEF.)

This is the fifth year SACCS has asked the major fungicide manufacturers to participate in a crop husbandry challenge whereby they pit their wits against myself and the Stetchworth Estate manager, Ron Gabain to produce the highest Margin Over Input Cost (MOIC). This year there are three varieties: Cougar, JB Diego and Skyfall, drilled on 7th October on clay loam into a commercial crop of winter wheat. Representatives of the companies will be required to provide a programme of inputs to be applied at T0, T1, T2 and T3 or as they see fit after inspection of the crops.

These programmes will be reported on in the Latest Trials News Page.
